Red rain.

red rain is coming down
red rain
red rain is pouring down
pouring down all over me

I am standing up at the water's edge in my dream
I cannot make a single sound as you scream
it can't be that cold, the ground is still warm to touch
this place is so quiet, sensing that storm

red rain is coming down
red rain
red rain is pouring down
pouring down all over me

well I've seen them buried in a sheltered place in this town
they tell you that this rain can sting, and look down
there is no blood around see no sign of pain
hay ay ay no pain
seeing no red at all, see no rain

red rain is coming down
red rain
red rain is pouring down
pouring down all over me

red rain-
putting the pressure on much harder now
to return again and again
just let the red rain splash you
let the rain fall on your skin
I come to you defences down
with the trust of a child

red rain is coming down
red rain
red rain is pouring down
pouring down all over me
and I can't watch any more
no more denial
it's so hard to lay down in all of this
red rain is coming down
red rain is pouring down
red rain is coming down all over me
I see it
red rain is coming down
red rain is pouring down
red rain is coming down all over me
I'm bathing in it
red rain coming down
red rain is coming down
red rain is coming down all over me
I'm begging you
red rain coming down
red rain coming down
red rain coming down
red rain coming down
over me in the red red sea
over me
over me
red rain

Natalie Merchant-Live in One Shot Not, singing She Devil.

She Devil.

look out she's coming at ya
big dark eyes like Cleopatra
the eyes of a femme fatale
bet you get the ominous feeling
a cold blooded creature in the
dark is stealing toward you
you best beware, take care
she's better than a work of fiction
half ingénue, half a vixen
your little paper doll
but brother she's a wicked sister
subtle and sly, watch it mister
and take my advice, stay away
or number your days

opiate clouds surround you
an addiction to love has found you out
half out of your mind
fool, when I think about you
I want to wrap my arms around you
and tell you more than words can say

she devil, she conquer
she devil, you want her
you're unaware tonight
of the danger everywhere

my poor little sleeping giant
dreaming warm and silent
where has your Delilah gone?
why don't you wake and see through
every way that she's deceived you
how she moves within?

see, everything the woman touches
it withers and dies in her clutches
why should your fate be
any different from these?

oh, well I've heard about you
every word that's said about you
the man in the silvery web
he fell for the sweet persuasion
of a black widow spider
now nothing can save him
it's just a matter of time

she devil, she conquer
she devil, you want her
you're unaware tonight
of the danger everywhere

she devil, she conquer
she devil, you want her
you're well aware tonight
of the danger everywhere
but you don't care

Natalie Merchant sings David Bowie´s song Space Oddity.

Space Oddity.

Ground Control to Major Tom
Ground Control to Major Tom
Take your protein pills and put your helmet on

Ground Control to Major Tom
Commencing countdown, engines on
Check ignition and may God's love be with you

(spoken)
Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One, Liftoff

This is Ground Control to Major Tom
You've really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare
"This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today

For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do

Though I'm past one hundred thousand miles
I'm feeling very still And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much she knows"
Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit's dead, there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you....
"Here am I floating round my tin can
Far above the Moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do."

Nowhere Man cover from The Beatles. Excellent version.

He's a real nowhere Man,
Sitting in his Nowhere Land,
Making all his nowhere plans
for nobody.

Doesn't have a point of view,
Knows not where he's going to,
Isn't he a bit like you and me?
Nowhere Man, please listen,
You don't know what you're missing,
Nowhere Man, the world is at your command.

(lead guitar)

He's as blind as he can be,
Just sees what he wants to see,
Nowhere Man can you see me at all?

Nowhere Man, don't worry,
Take your time, don't hurry,
Leave it all till somebody else
lends you a hand.

Doesn't have a point of view,
Knows not where he's going to,
Isn't he a bit like you and me?

He's a real Nowhere Man,
Sitting in his Nowhere Land,
Making all his nowhere plans
for nobody.
Making all his nowhere plans
for nobody.
Making all his nowhere plans
for nobody.

Natalie Mechant-Tribute to Imelda Marcos.
Tribute by Davis Bowie & Fatboys Slim.
Song named: Order 1081

A concept album based around the lives of Imelda Marcos and her nanny Estrella Cumpas, David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's (Norman Cook) Here Lies Love is primarily a great pop record featuring a bevy of name female vocalists. Grand conceptual themes aside, Byrne, Slim, and Slim cohort Tom Gandey (aka Cagedbaby) have delivered a kooky, fun, theatrical, and — more often than not — deliriously listenable collection of '70s and '80s club pop. Inspired by a disparate set of sources, not the least of which included his reading of Ryszard Kapuscinski's book The Emperor as well as various reports detailing the former First Lady of the Philippines' penchant for disco and club life, Byrne formulated this would-be stage production based around the notion — as he says in the liner notes — of the "bubble worlds of the rich and powerful" set to the popular sounds (disco, soul, Latin beats, cabaret) of Marcos' time in power. While there is no dialogue in this production, Byrne has crafted each track throughout the album to tell the story and evoke the emotional state of Marcos and her longtime nanny Cumpas' emotional state. And while the story hangs together quite well, the main impression you are left with is that Byrne and Slim have impeccable taste in female singers. Here we get British songstress Florence Welch (Florence and the Machine) delivering the title prologue track, an anthemic disco-inflected number that recalls any number of Studio 54 diva hits. Similarly, Tori Amos takes on the role of Marcos' mother, Remedios, on the eerie flamenco-infused "You'll Be Taken Care Of." Along the way you get '80s pop icon Cyndi Lauper, alt-country-rocker Allison Moorer, Irish soul siren Roisin Murphy, Philly punk-dance singer Santigold, Natalie Merchant, Nellie McKay, Martha Wainwright, Sharon Jones, and others.

A bomb went off this morning raining bodies on TV
They are blaming the insurgents, they are blocking off the streets
And the smoke is rising slowly, from the barrel of a gun
The solution to disruption Order 1081

Now the sunsets are incredible across Manila Bay
You can hear the bombers landing at the U.S. Air Force base
And somewhere in the distance, out beyond the setting sun
They will sign a proclamation Order 1081

Now we live down by the water in a shack that’s made of wood
And the bankers need to huddle so they need some extra room
We will find us somewhere better, there’s enough for everyone
Got a perfect explanation Order 1081

I thought I ordered coffee but they gave me 7Up
Got to clear away these shanties and these ugly nipa huts
So the seeds of our great future, they can grow here when we’re done
And it’s clearly all because of Order 1081

For thirty days the rain fell, we were nearly washed away
The radio fell silent, nothing left to do but pray
And the senator he told us the guerrillas are on the run
And the reason they are hiding? Order 1081

They are planting plastic flowers on the seaside esplanade
The Pope is speaking Spanish but we can’t hear what he says
Got to stop all this confusion, got to wipe away this scum
And the way to make it happen Order 1081

It’s amazing that the soldiers somehow all know how to dance
It’s amazing how the soldiers keep the creases in their pants
Now it’s safe to walk the streets at night a new world has begun
Ev’rybody’s sleeping soundly thanks to 1081

Natalie Merchant & Michael Stipe-Hello in there.

Natalie Merchant from 10,000 Maniacs and Michael Stipe from REM singing together "Hello in there" at March 1990 in Glasgow.

We had an apartment in the city
Me and Loretta liked living there
It'd been years since the kids had grown
A life of their own
Left us alone
John and Linda live in Omaha
Joe is somewhere on the road
We lost Davey in the Korean War
And I still don't know what for
dont matter anymore
Chorus:
You know that old trees grow stronger
and old rivers grow wilder everyday
old people, just grow lonesome
waiting for someone to say Hello in There
hello
Me and Loretta we don't talk much more
She sits and stares through the back door screen
And all the news just repeats itself
like some forgotten dream
that we've both seen
Someday I'll go and call up Rudy
We worked together at the factory
But what could I say if he asks "what's new?"
"nothin what's with you?"
nothin much to do
Chorus
So if you walking down the street some time
And spot some hollow ancient eyes
Please don't just pass em by and stare
as if you didnt care
Say hello in there
hello

Natalie Merchat & Michael Stipe-Candy everybody wants

If lust and hate is the candy,
If blood and love tastes so sweet,
Then we give 'em what they want.
Hey, hey, give 'em what they want.

So their eyes are growing hazy 'cos they wanna turn it on,
So their minds are soft and lazy.
Well, hey, give 'em what they want.

If lust and hate is the candy,
If blood and love tastes so sweet,
Then we give 'em what they want.

So their eyes are growing hazy 'cos they wanna turn it on,
So their minds are soft and lazy.
Well... who do you wanna blame?

Hey, hey, give 'em what they want.

If lust and hate is the candy,
If blood and love tastes so sweet,
Then we give 'em what they want.

So their eyes are growing hazy 'cos they wanna turn it on,
So their minds are soft and lazy.

Well... who do you wanna blame?

Natalie Merchat & Michel Stipe-To sir with love.

Those
Schoolgirl days
Of telling tales
And biting nails
Are gone
But in my mind
I know
That they
Will still live
On and on
But how
Do you thank
Someone
Who has taken you
From crayons
To perfume
It isn't easy
But I'll try

If you wanted
The sky
I would write
Across the sky
In letters
That would soar
A thousand feet high
To sir
With love

Natalie Merchat & Michel Stipe-Photograph.

I found this photograph
Underneath broken picture glass
Tender face of black & white
Beautiful, a haunting sight
Looked into an angel's smile
Captivated all the while
From her hair and clothes she wore
I'd have placed her in between the wars

Was she willing when she sat
And posed a pretty photograph
To save her flowering and fair
For days to come
For days to share
A big smile for the camera
How did she know
The moment could be lost forever
Forever more

I found this photograph
In stacks between the old joist walls
In a place where time is lost
Lost behind where all things fall
Broken books and calendars,

Letters script in careful hand,
The music to a standard tune by
Some forgotten big brass band

From the thresh hold what's to see
Of our brave new century
Television's just a dream
Of radio and silver screen
A big smile for the camera
How did she know
The moment could be lost forever
Forever more

Was her childhood filled with rhyme
Or stolen books of passion crimes?
Was she innocent or blind to the cruelty of her time?
Was she fearful in her day?
Was she hopeful? did she pray?
Were there skeletons inside
Family secrets sworn to hide?
Did she feel the heat that stirs
The fall from grace of wayward girls?
Was she tempted to pretend
In love and laughter until the end?

Natalie Merchant-The Gulf of Araby.

(Gulf of Araby" performed on Sessions at West 54th Street 1998).

If you could fill a veil with shells from killineys shore
And sweet talk in a tongue that is no more
If wishful thought could bridge
The gulf of araby
Between what is
What is
What is
And what can never be

If you could hold the frozen flow of new hope creek
And hide out from the one they said you might meet
If you could unlearn all the words
That you never wanted heard
If you could stall the southern wind
That's whistling in your ears
You could take what is
What is
What is
What is
To what can never be

One man of seventy whispers free at last
Two neighbors who are proud of their massacres
Three tyrants torn away in a winters month
Four prisoners framed by a dirty judge
Five burned with tyres
Six men still inside
And seven more days to shake at the great divide

The gulf, the gulf of araby
The gulf, the gulf of araby

Well, we would plough and part the earth to bring you home
And harvest every miracle ever known
If they laid out all the things
That these ten years want to bring
We would gladly give them up
To bring you back to us
O, there is nothing we would not give
To kiss you and believe you can take what is
What is
What is
To what can never be

One man of seventy whispers not free yet
Two neighbors who make up knee-deep in their dead
Three tyrants torn away in the summers heat
Four prisoners lost in the fallacy
Five, on my life
And six, Im dead inside
And seven more days to shake at the great divide

The gulf, the gulf of araby
The gulf, the gulf of araby
